Application Process
Departments must request the DS-2019 through the in REDCap. Please collect all of the documents listed below prior to submitting the application and submit 2-3 months in advance of the prospective student intern’s start date to allow sufficient time for visa processing.
Internship Training Plan
The DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan (T/IPP) is a required component for J-1 Student Interns. The information that populates this form is collected in the form in REDCap.
Visa Deemed Export Questionnaire
Once it has been decided to invite a Student Intern to 自慰视频, please have the faculty supervisor or hiring/hosting manager complete the . This form is sent directly to 自慰视频 Export Compliance (VEC), who will contact you if they have any follow up questions.
Subject/Field Code Selection
The primary faculty supervisor or hosting manager must identify the subject area that best describes the prospective Student Intern鈥檚 area of focus. Please have the faculty supervisor complete the before you submit the department application for the DS-2019 in REDCap.
Supporting Documents
Collect the remaining supporting documents from the faculty supervisor and prospective student intern. All documents can be uploaded to the .

- Proof of financial support, if prospective Exchange Visitor is not supported entirely by 自慰视频 funds
- Copy of passport for student intern
- Dependents’ documents 鈥 Passport copies, marriage/birth certificate and proof of financial documents if dependents accompany J-1 student intern
- Documentation of enrollment and good standing from current institution
- Signed letter of approval for internship participation from student intern’s home institution (from Dean or Academic Advisor)
- Student intern personal statement describing how internship will assist in fulfilling student intern’s educational objectives and academic course of study.
If the prospective student intern is already in the US on a DS-2019 from another institution and will transfer their DS-2019 to 自慰视频, they must complete the .
Next Steps
Once the application has been submitted, an ISSS advisor will review it and follow up if additional clarification is needed. If the intern is eligible, ISSS will prepare a Certificate of Eligibility (DS-2019) and a form DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan (T/IPP).
DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan (T/IPP) Signatures
ISSS will complete the DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan (T/IPP) and will send a copy to the department for review. Please notify our office if corrections are needed.
If all is correct, the department should send the DS-7002 to the student intern and the supervisor to sign their respective signature pages. The student intern must sign their page in ink. The supervisor may sign in ink or digitally sign with a timestamp or watermark (Adobe Sign or Docusign). Once each individual has provided the signature page, please send a scanned copy to ISSS.
ISSS will upload the DS-2019 and signed DS-7002 T/IPP to the student intern’s record in the ISSS Portal. The student intern will need to print and sign the DS-2019 and DS-7002 before his/her visa interview.
English Proficiency
Regulations require that exchange visitors demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency to successfully participate in their program and to 鈥渇unction on a day-to-day basis鈥 [22CFR62.11(a)(2)].
This requirement can be met in one of four ways for 自慰视频 University exchange visitors:
- Submitting results of a recognized English language test 鈥撀 or
- Minimum acceptable TOEFL scores: 550 paper-based test; 213 computer-based test; 79 internet-based test
- Minimum acceptable IELTS score 6.5
- Please note that test scores are only valid for two years beyond the test date.
- Submit a copy of degree completion certificate or transcripts from an institution where student intern completed a degree that was taught primarily in English. This includes graduation from a high school that was taught primarily in English. If it is unclear whether or not the program was taught in English, the student intern can submit a letter from the institution confirming the language of instruction.

J-1 Student Intern Evaluations
All programs must conduct a concluding evaluation prior to the conclusion of the internship, and both the student intern and immediate supervisor must sign the evaluation forms. The evaluation form can be found聽
Programs lasting more than six months must conduct both a midpoint and concluding evaluation. Submit a copy of all evaluations to ISSS. ISSS must retain these evaluations for three years following completion of the student鈥檚 internship.
