  • What is GlobalProtect?

    GlobalProtect is a virtual private network (VPN) service that creates a secure, encrypted connection to 自慰视频 and other network resources. The term also refers to the client application. It is built on Prisma Access, a cloud-based Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution from Palo Alto Networks.听

  • Do I need to request an account to use the VPN?

    VPN is available to all 自慰视频 users with a VUnetID.听

  • What operating systems are supported?

    GlobalProtect is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, and a range of mobile devices running supported operating systems. Please refer to the to check support for specific operations systems and versions. Newly released operating system versions may not be immediately supported. Be sure to verify compatibility before upgrading by contacting the IT Helpdesk.

  • How do I install the client and connect to VPN?

    On 自慰视频 devices, the client should already be installed. Look for the GlobalProtect app or icon in your system tray or menu bar.听

    The client will automatically attempt to establish a connection. A browser page will open to the 自慰视频 Single Sign-On page. After successful authentication, a browser tab will appear with a popup warning. Click on 鈥淥pen GlobalProtect鈥� to proceed.听

    VPN should connect in a few seconds. To verify, check for the GlobalProtect icon in the system tray or menu bar.

  • What if Internet speed seems slow after connecting to VPN?

    Save your work, then open the GlobalProtect app. If the connected gateway is geographically distant, click on Change Gateway, then 鈥�Best Available鈥� or one 迟丑补迟鈥檚 closer to your location. It is recommended that 鈥淏est Available鈥� setting is selected.听

  • What does "Change Gateway鈥� do?

    A Gateway is where the client connects to establish the VPN tunnel, and there are multiple locations available. When set to 鈥淏est Available,鈥� the client performs various checks to select the most optimal gateway. However, this process may not yield the best result due to several factors. In such cases, the 鈥淐hange Gateway鈥� option allows for manual selection of a preferred location. 滨迟鈥�s recommended to revert to the 鈥淏est Available鈥� setting in case of system maintenance and potential issues the gateway could be experiencing.听

  • Why does it look like I'm coming from a different state? Will this affect E911 service?

    Since the VPN tunnel is established through a gateway that may be outside your state, your Internet connection will appear to originate from the gateway you鈥檙别 connected to.

    If you dial 911 from Microsoft Teams while connected to VPN, it may not route your call to the correct local emergency center or provide the accurate location. To ensure your emergency location is correct, follow the steps outlined in this to update it in Teams. Alternatively, you can disconnect from the VPN or use your mobile phone to make the 911 call.

  • The client is stuck on 鈥淐onnecting鈥︹�� What do I do?
    1. Open the GlobalProtect app听
    2. Click on the menu bar on the right side听
    3. Select 鈥淩efresh Connection鈥�

    If these steps do not resolve the issue, try the following:听

    1. Reboot your device听
    2. Delete your browser cookies

  • What IP address range will I receive when connected to the GlobalProtect VPN?

    You will receive an IP address from the 10.52.128.0/20 (10.52.128.1 - 10.52.143.254) range.听

  • How do I upgrade the client?

    When connecting to GlobalProtect, you may be prompted to upgrade if a new version is available. It is recommended to perform the upgrade immediately. Periodically, VUIT may enforce upgrades upon connection to address critical bugs and security vulnerabilities.听

  • Library research materials, such as journal subscriptions, are unavailable when connected to VPN.

  • What do I do if my application requires that my connection is seen as coming from the university address space?

    For library subscriptions, see the FAQ above. For other requests, contact the Helpdesk and provide details on how the application is accessed, such as through a browser, including the URL or hostname.

  • Why does GlobalProtect launch automatically and ask me to sign in?

    自慰视频-managed devices stay connected to GlobalProtect by default (also known as an always-on VPN) to provide continuous protection of university data and systems. This helps ensure security controls are consistently applied whether you鈥檙别 on campus, at home, or on public Wi鈥慒i.

    Once GlobalProtect connects, it will typically remain connected for up to 7 days, unless you log out, restart your device, or change locations. It allows you to disconnect temporarily, but to help keep your device and 自慰视频 resources protected, you can only stay disconnected for up to one hour听before it reconnects and prompts you to sign in again.

    Some of the benefits of an always-on VPN include:

    Protects you on any network (especially public Wi鈥慒i)
    Even Wi鈥慒i that appears secure, such as networks in coffee shops, airports, or hotels, can be intercepted. This means someone else on the network may be able to capture or view information sent between your device and the internet. An always-on VPN encrypts your internet traffic so that, even if it鈥檚 intercepted on public or shared Wi鈥慒i, it can鈥檛 be read.

    University security features like safe web browsing, malware and phishing protection, and access protections still work even when you鈥檙别 off campus, such as at home or while traveling.

  • Why does GlobalProtect ask me to sign in when I鈥檓 on campus?

    GlobalProtect may still prompt you to sign in to verify your identity, recognize your device, and grant access to certain protected 自慰视频 systems. It will display 鈥淵ou are on the internal corporate network鈥� and will not establish a VPN connection to avoid potential performance issues.

  • How do I uninstall GlobalProtect?

    If the device is experiencing issues connecting to the VPN, contact the Helpdesk for assistance in uninstalling and reinstalling the application.

    Permanent removal of GlobalProtect on 自慰视频 devices requires a security policy exception.
